Sensory Meditation

Facilitated by Jim Macdonald and Ariyah Kimberlinn

What was originally week 3 of the 10-week intimacy series (now the sixth in the series) is a yummy one, perhaps literally. This workshop was originally scheduled on January 25 and has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 6.

Often, in meditation, we sit still and do our best to empty the mind, focusing on the in and out of the breath. However, what if, in addition to breath, we also invite in our senses? In a practice where we are simply aware of what feelings and sensations arise in the body, we can become more aware of ourselves and what we like and dislike.

In this version of the practice, small groups will go into a sacred space, and individuals will have their chance to share their desires, fears, and boundaries around sensory experiences. Recommended with the receiver's eyes closed, other members of the group (givers) will have stations of sensory objects (for example, feathers, essential oils, fruit, sounding instruments), where the givers will supply the sensory inputs for the receiver's sensory meditation. Receivers and givers each have the opportunity to communicate their yeses, noes, and pauses to each other and later share with each other the feelings that arose both in the act of giving and receiving.

No experience in any kind of meditation is required.

The suggested price for this workshop is $25, but all of these workshops are pay what you can (even if what you can is $0).

Space for all these workshops is limited; so please RSVP to guarantee your spot.
